Football Slouchy

This is for an adult. 2 @ 50 grams of Double Knitting wool, one in each colour.
Knitting needles - UK 8, US 6, Metric 4.
Tension - 22 stitches and 28 rows per 4".
As a rough guide the hat circumference should be 2" less than the head circumference so it fits snugly.
If you're working in two colours catch the strand that you're not using into the rows as you go along.
The finished hat turned out very slightly loose for my head, but was still fine.

CO 100. (You need an easily divisible number so you can decrease evenly for the crown).
Slip 1, K2, P2 to last stitch, K1. Do this for 2 inches.
Change colour and remembering to S1 and the beginning and K1 at the end of each row, work in stocking stitch for another 2 inches.
(Actually I wouldn't bother with the slipping and knitting of the outer stitches in this pattern as it makes the stripes 'out' by one stitch, which shows when you're sewing up).
Change back to original colour and continue in stocking stitch for yet another two inches.
Get the idea?

Continue in this way until the hat is almost the length you want. I'm making it 11" which is half way through a white stripe. Now this is a crafty bit. I have read that ideally the crown is decreased over 2". But this last stripe will be gathered up into a round, and look like a 4" blob at the top of the hat, so I am going to start the decreases half way through that penultimate white stripe. That way, the green crown will only measure 3" diameter.(I hope).
So...
Pattern until work measures 11" ending with a knit row.
Then you're all set for the crown decreases.
K8, K2tog ten times. P next row.
K7 K2tog ten times. P next row.
K6, K2tog ten times. P next row.
K5, K2tog ten times. P next row.
K4, K2tog ten times. P next row.
K3, K2tog ten times. P next row.
K2, K2tog ten times. P next row.
K1, K2tog ten times. P next row.
K2tog ten times.
K2tog five times. (5 stitches remain)
Draw up and tie off and stitch up the whole thing.
Being a perfectionist I used green wool for stitching up the green stripes and white wool for the white.

(Picture coming.)

Now, same(ish) pattern for a 4 year old. As the above turned out a bit loose I'm taking 4" off the width.
CO80.
Make all the stripes 1.5" instead of 2". I found 10 rows per colour was near enough.
When decreasing for the crown start with
K6, K2tog ten times.
Finish off as adult one.
